A Gentle Invitation to Celebrate:

An Easter Reflection

Easter has a way of arriving like a breath of fresh air.  And we look forward to the day as a day of starting fresh.  Whether you celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ or you hide Easter eggs for the kids, Easter is the holiday that seems to usher in the Spring season.

After the heaviness of winter—long days, gray skies, rain or snow, and the general weariness that can quietly build—this Spring season brings something lighter with it. More sunlight. Softer mornings. Hints of color returning to the world around us.  There’s just something that feels…more hopeful.

And with that comes an invitation we don’t always give ourselves permission to accept:
the invitation to celebrate.

Not because everything is perfect.   Not because life suddenly feels easy.
But because there is still goodness worth noticing and appreciating.

Celebration, in a therapeutic sense, isn’t about ignoring what’s hard. It’s about creating space for joy alongside it.  Celebration is how we can acknowledge the struggles we’ve come through.

It might look like:

  • Sitting outside and actually noticing the warmth of the sun on your skin.  I know for me, as soon as it’s warm enough, I sit outside on my deck with my cup of coffee every morning, enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of the new season.

  • Laughing a little longer than usual with the people you love.  Take time to enjoy the people around you.  Don’t always be in a rush.

  • Letting something be simple instead of overthinking it.  Easier said than done, I know.  But sometimes celebration is being able to just enjoy what is.  Don’t complicate things; just enjoy them.

  • Pausing to appreciate how far you’ve come, even if you’re not where you want to be yet.  I think it’s important to celebrate every milestone.

These moments may seem small, but they matter more than we realize. They help regulate our nervous system. They remind us that life isn’t only made up of stress, pressure, or responsibility, but that it also includes relaxation, stillness, and being carefree.

These moments ground us in the present.

Easter and the Spring season can be a reset—not in a dramatic, life-changing way, but in a quiet, meaningful one. A chance to loosen your shoulders. To take a deeper breath. To allow yourself to experience a little more lightness.  To experience life around you.

If you’ve been carrying a lot lately, this is your reminder:
You don’t have to earn rest.  You don’t have to justify joy.

You’re allowed to celebrate what is good, right now.

So today, let it be simple.

Step outside.
Gather with people who feel safe.
Eat something you enjoy.  Do something that brings joy.
Notice what feels warm, bright, or alive.

And let that be enough.
