10/25 - Don't Let Your Mental Health Become a Horror Story
πDon’t Let Your Mental Health Become a Horror Story! π
We know that Halloween is all about things that go bump in the night, creepy surprises, haunted houses, trick-or-treating, candy and a few good scares. But sometimes, the scariest things aren’t ghosts or goblins—they’re the worries, stress, and negative thoughts we carry around every day!
π» Here are 4 ways to give your mental health a little Halloween treat:
π 1. Face Your Fears (Even the Spooky Ones!)
Avoiding things that make us anxious can sometimes make them feel even scarier.
Take small steps toward facing your fears by breaking them into bite size pieces, and remember that you don’t have to conquer everything in one night!
π¬ 2. Give Yourself Permission to Take a Break
You don’t have to run around like a headless horseman trying to do everything for everyone all the time.
Rest is not laziness. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. Sometimes, the best treat you can give yourself is a little quiet time.
πΈ️ 3. Stop Letting Negative Thoughts Haunt You
Ever find yourself replaying an awkward conversation from three days ago? Or worrying about something that MIGHT happen?
Our minds can turn little worries into full-blown haunted houses! Practice noticing those thoughts without automatically believing everything they tell you. Acknowledge them and then let them move on. Don't let your worries get the best of you.
π¦ 4. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help
Even the bravest superheroes need backup! In fact, all good superheroes have a sidekick.
Talking with a trusted friend, loved one, or therapist can help you work through difficult emotions and find healthier ways to cope. You don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable to get support. Put support in place early, so it's there when you need it.
A Little Mental Health Magic ✨
This Halloween, remember that taking care of yourself is not selfish or scary. You deserve the same kindness and compassion you so freely give to others and that you often recommend to others.
So, enjoy the costumes, eat a few treats, laugh at the silly scares, and remember: you don't have to be afraid of asking for help.
Because the goal isn't to have a spooktacularly perfect life. It's to build a healthier one, one small step at a time.
Wishing you a happy Halloween and a little less haunting from the inside out! π§‘
